GIDAI is a Research and Development Group at the University of Cantabria oriented, for more than 15 years, the study of phenomena related to Fire Science and the human response to emergency conditions and transferring them to improve levels of fire safety in the society.
Inside the scopes of action it emphasizes a vocation by improving the compression of the processes linked with the fires in closed precincts (buildings, infrastructure, transportation) and forest environment, through basic research projects funded through public calls of competitive manner. GIDAI also has a clear conscience of exploitation of these works through collaborative research programs between public and private sectors, and through specific work of government agencies and companies that aim to increase the supply of goods or services related to conditions caused by fires. Finally, it is inherent in the activity of group interest in formal education at the university level and improving safety culture, which may signal a major effort since its inception.
The work and research activities are supported by the competence of the GIDAI team formed of professors and researchers, PhD students, technicians and laboratory specialists, as well as a unique research infrastructure dedicated to fire dynamics and human response in evacuation procedures. Also, our group is part of the proceedings of the International Campus Project Cantabria, University of Cantabria, and in particular in the International Technology Campus which comprises more than 500 researchers of high scientific and technological capacity.
