GIDAI - Fire Research Center, is the project of a new reference center at the University of Cantabria for Research, Development and Technological Innovation of Fire Safety, which is part of the proceedings of the Cantabria International Campus project under the University of Cantabria, and in particular the scope for collaboration with the city council of Santander.
Its mission is to ensure the growth of research capacity and knowledge transfer of generating a center of excellence dedicated to improve knowledge of fire dynamics and combustion, fire safety and security of people during Emergency evacuation situations, to serve the society.
The path to excellence will be five key elements: the consolidation of fund-raising capacity for research, increased levels of education and training of researchers, increasing scientific productivity, and ultimately transfer performance and technological innovation.
It is intended that the Centre's establishment significantly increase the ability to raise R + D +i in the coming years, maintaining the balance between competitive projects and projects for companies or agencies. Likewise, raising funds from international projects is a priority within the action lines of the Centre.
Investments made in the University of Cantabria have enabled the acquisition of unique materialize research infrastructures that require adequate spaces available to the operating requirements for the development of fire experiments of small and medium scale. These laboratory facilities for the combustion of materials and products, complete with the capabilities to develop fire assays on end-user conditions, the small-scale physical models by dimensional similarity, testing the response of advanced fire , and analysis by infrared thermography techniques.
Therefore, the Centre aims to become a reference in Spain and internationally in basic and applied research in development studies, methodologies and tools for Science and Technology for Fire Safety.
The construction of the GIDAI Fire Research Center in the University of Cantabria (UC) has been founded by Ministry of Education of the Government of Spain. This initiative is included in the
Cantabria Campus International project, and the UC proposal has obtained 2 million euros in the program of “Scientist improvement and transference of the knowledge”.
